For groups or individuals. We will cover both how to present in person and over video. We will cover basic tips and techniques We will work from a deck the client provides – we’ll work on how to relate to slides and images, how to make sure the presentation is memorable, presentation storytelling, transitions, team cohesion, and developing a theme for a presentation. We will rehearse specific language, lines, drawing attention to the slides and drawing attention away from it. Presenters will walk way from the session confident in their ability to present the deck, and equipped with the tools to approach their next presentation.
For individuals or small groups (2-3 people). We will cover the basics of media interviews, focusing both on print interviews, broadcast, and live. The training covers tips and techniques such as bridging, flagging, illustrating and speaking in soundbites. We will practice posture, eye-contact, pausing and on-camera technique. Then we’ll practice specific messaging for an upcoming interview or media tour – how to stay on message, how to steer the direction of an interview, how to ignore questions and handle surprises. We will cover on and off-the record, reporter types, trick questions. And we will rehearse specific interviews several times to make sure participants feel equipped to deliver messages in a variety of interview settings.
Working with a proposal and pitch team from the outset of an opportunity, I will help to understand the opportunity, explore the competitive landscape, determine insights and a strategic framework that will drive proposal, facilitate a creative process to shape and refine a tactical plan, and organize the process around a winning theme. For written submissions, I will act as a coach and editor for the written document. For presentations, I will work with an in-house designer, (or, if no in-house design resource is available, with my own outside designer for $75/hr) to create an impactful presentation. I will make recommendations for design ideas, flow and structure of the presentation, and text edits to make the presentation a visual as opposed to a written document. The end result will be a proposal or presentation that tells a story, emphasizes the agency’s strengths and abilities, and aligns the with the prospective client’s need.
In addition to the services provided in New Biz counsel, this service also includes working with the pitch team to refine a presentation and rehearse the team. Typically this will consist of at least two half days of rehearsal time, working on storytelling, personality, deck flow, team cohesion, and specific language or ideas to incorporate in a presentation. The team will be prepared to know why they should win, and how to emphasize that, and how to pull those things through in the course of a presentation. Since there is a significant difference between an in-person pitch and a video pitch, we will focus on whichever is applicable for a particular opportunity, and make sure we rehearse in the right format.
